Website is important for any business that going online, but it won’t be effective without a good search ranking or SEO. Without good search ranking, your website will have a very low traffic which won’t get you anywhere. You need to consider a good website design and SEO friendly.

Here are some SEO tips that can help to improve your search ranking;

Fresh Content

You can consider to have blog with fresh articles and put up the link or latest posts on every page of your website. Try to add new article every week at least because search engine loves new content and up-to-date websites. Search engine will also increase crawl frequency to your websites.

Meta Tag on Each Pages

Meta Tag is the most important for your website to get ranked by search engine. It consists of page titles, description, keywords which should be different on every pages of your website. This will help search engines to have a better idea on how your website is constructed and structured.

Use of Heading

Your website should make a good use of heading tags such as for main topic,Your website should make a good use of heading tags such as for <h1> main topic, <h2> to <h6>to identify your article hierarchy.

Image Alt Attributes

Your images should have Alt attribute. Search engine could not recognize or see image on your page, they identify your images based on your Alt attribute. With Alt attribute, search engine can determine the relevancy of page to the images used.

SEO Friendly URL

SEO friendly URL consists of keywords that are related to your page content. Some CMS will auto generate numbers or codes for every posts you create. Good CMS such as WordPress will give you the ability to customize your URL.

So avoid URL like http://www.solubytes.com/?page=1, instead of creating a seo-friendly URL such as http://www.solubytes.com/seo-tips

Place CSS & JS Outside of the HTML

By placing all your Javascript and CSS scripts outside your page HTML, search engine crawler may be able to crawl your website content faster. Search engine loves website that has contents that are fast to be crawled, if your website are slow, they will just drop crawling.

Avoid Flash Content

Flash website may be nice to look at and loved by your visitors, but it is hated by search engine. Same as images, search engine does not have human eyes, so they will have a tough time crawling your sites for content.

Google has started to abandon to work with old browsers. Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs may not work properly if you are still using older versions of browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.

Reason behind this is that Google is trying to break the trend of people who like to stick with their older browsers or lazy to update to the latest versions. Google would like their developers to make full use of HTML5 without worrying about affected users who do not upgrade their browser.

This will be a good news for web designers including Solubytes, singapore seo consultant and web designer. We did encounter few compatibility issues when developing a website for a client. Our client pointed out that the website did not work properly as claimed. We were pulling our hair out to find the cause of it as the website was working perfectly in all our laptops and even in our iPhone browsers.

We suspected on the compatibility issue of our client’ browser and advised to upgrade or reinstall the browser. After reinstalled, it worked perfectly fine !

So, for those of you that have not upgraded your Firefox, please do it today !

Co.cc is one of the company that has offered free domain registration under subdomain co.cc for few years. Surprisingly, huge number of spammers or other low grade registrants have come knocking on their door and have caused a lot of issues and problems for internet users.

Because of co.cc large volume of spammers and problems, Google has quietly delisted, banned all co.cc sub-domain from their main search engine. So it was a good move from Google to follow their philosophy of “Don’t be Evil” by removing co.cc subdomain from Google search engine.

The next step will be for Google to take action on the many other sub-domains that should not be listed in its search directory.

As per Matt Cutts explanation on Google +, if Google notices a large volume of spam sites, Google has the rights to take further action on the freehost as a whole.

So, if you are using Co.CC and reading this article, your site has been delisted and not to be found in Google search result.

To check, you can go to Google.com, type site:yourdomain.co.cc , and if you do not find any result, it is confirmed that your site have been delisted totally.

So, it is highly recommended to get your own paid domain which cost less than $10 per annum !

Google has released their new website ranking algorithm called Panda Update in February 2011. Google Panda Update main objective is to reduce the ranking for low quality content sites and give reward to the content rich, original, unique contents and related sites. Google is tired of low quality websites and starts penalizing sites that have duplicate contents, link farm, and heavy on advertisement.

One of the affected websites is EzineArticles, one of the top article directories, who has lost about 90% visibility in their search results.

So how does this Panda differentiate good sites from bad?

As explained by Matt Cutts, this new algorithm actually works the same as search engine. It compared the original data with these sites, and checked if these sites contain inappropriate, irrelevant or overlapping content, and then marked as not-so-good websites.

Guide to survive Google’s Panda Update :

Original content (do not use auto blogging software)
Authoritative information (content that help to answer people questions and that they find credible)
For non-unique content, you have to make sure that your content add significant value over the original source.
Links to your sites and social sharing.
Valuable and related contents across the entire website.
